Ragtime Musical

ragtime musicalIf you haven’t been, there is just one weekend left to see, Ragtime, the Musical at the Arvada Center.  Of the many plays I’ve attended at the Arvada Center, they’ve all been excellent. Unfortunately, we are not going to be able to make it to his excellent Musical Play which has run at the Arvada Center from September 9th through October 2nd. Ragtime, the Musical has gotten outstanding reviews and is a winner of two, Tony Awards: Best Musical Score and Best Book. The Ragtime Musical is also a winner of the Drama Desk Award for Best Musical and Best Score. What more could you want from a Ragtime Musical?

Marc Cohn Concert

Arvada Center Marc Cohn ConcertThis summer, I had my choice between attending either Marc Cohn or Los Lonely Boys at the Arvada Center. My wife chose Mark Cohn for me – and for her.  Actually, I thought Los Lonely Boys sounded a little more fun for a live event, but my wife is really a big Marc Cohn fan. Marc Cohn became a sentimental favorite of our when we discovered his CD, Listening Booth, in a Steamboat Springs record store last September. Listening Booth features easy-listening, popular songs from the 70’s of Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, Paul McCartney, Paul Simon and other famed singer/composers of that era. While Marc Cohn’s laid-back, easy style on these tracks makes us feel good every time we hear them on our home stereo, I didn’t think it would make for very good live entertainment at the Arvada Center. Don’t get me wrong, just about anything sounds good at the Arvada Center, but this was not a concert I was getting excited about. I’ve gone to some great concerts and musicals at the Arvada Center. My very favorite performance was probably, Blood Sweat & Tears. I couldn’t imagine getting too excited about Marc Cohn. Well, it turns out I was right, but for the wrong reason.
